The Complete CPA Guide

Everything AI-TaxPlan does, in plain English. AI-TaxPlan reads a client's tax return, finds the legitimate, citation-backed strategies that lower their bill, and gives you a branded plan to send them. Start with the Quick Start, then dip into the feature reference whenever you need it.

AI-TaxPlan comes with every I-TaxPlan Growth plan. Entry ($99/mo) includes Quick Plans and proposals, with full plans in packs: 1 for $200 or 3 for $500, and they never expire. Full Firm ($750/mo) includes unlimited full plans and an unlimited team.

The one habit that makes everything easy
πŸ“„ Always upload the client's most recent tax return (PDF) before you run the full plan. The AI reads it directly, so the plan is built on the real figures.
Part 1 β€” Quick Start

From zero to a finished tax plan

This is AI-TaxPlan 2.0, the only layout since September 2026. The menu has three items: Dashboard Β· Clients Β· My firm. Everything else is under More. Each client has one record with four steps: Requests β†’ Return & facts β†’ Plan β†’ Deliver. The Tax plan summary card on the right always shows the next step.

1Add your client

Click + Add client at the top right. Have their return? Drop it on the form. The AI reads it and fills in name, income, filing status, state and entity, so you only type what the return can't tell us. No return? Fill in the starred fields.

The tax year defaults to the year the plan is built for. You can change it. Then pick Quick Plan or Full Plan. Quick Plan builds the proposal in about 30 seconds. Full Plan runs the full analysis now.

On a call with no client record yet? Quick analysis in the top bar gives a savings estimate in seconds.

2Check what the AI read

Open the client and go to Return & facts. Every figure the AI read links to its page in the PDF ("1040 Β· line 11 Β· p.2"). Click one to check it.

No return yet? Drop it on Return & facts. The AI reads it and attaches it to the client's plan. Or send a Request and the client uploads it in their portal.

3Create and send the proposal

Press Build the proposal on the summary card. In about 30 seconds you get a First look: the estimated savings, the strategies behind it and a suggested fee. Change the fee if you like, then press View proposal and Create proposal. It can come with an invoice. You then see the proposal exactly as the client will, before anything is sent. Email it from there, present it, or copy its link. Quick Plans and proposals are free on every plan.

4The full plan builds while they decide

Creating the proposal also starts the full plan in the background. You don't have to wait: a notice tells you when it's ready, and you can review it right away. No proposal? Press Run the full plan. Three AI specialists work in order:

πŸ” Inspector
Reads the return & flags issues / missing items.
πŸ’‘ Strategist
Finds every strategy that fits, with dollar savings.
βœ… Auditor
Independently checks the math & IRS citations, and notes anything you should double-check.

A few minutes. It saves on its own, so you can leave the page. If you built a proposal first, its First look stays on screen while they work. On Entry, a full plan uses one plan credit, and so does the full plan a proposal starts. Running the same plan again within 30 days is free.

5Review the plan

The Plan tab lists every strategy by category with its dollar figure. Tick the ones to recommend. More on this strategy explains what it is, how to set it up and what must be true first. Save a selection as a scenario and compare up to three side by side. Before / after shows federal and state tax before and after the plan. Changed the client's income or filing status? The plan re-prices right away. Run it again to refresh the write-up. Changed their state or client type? The plan is flagged for a re-run, because that can change which strategies apply. Have a question? Type it in Ask about this client on the summary card and the AI assistant answers.

6Deliver

On Deliver, tick what the client will see, then press Send plan. The client gets a secure portal in your brand to review the plan, ask questions and accept with an e-signature. You're notified the moment they accept. Present to client turns the same numbers into a slide deck for a screen share. Download plan gives you the PDF, with the authority behind each strategy.

Sent a proposal with an invoice? Sending, presenting or sharing the plan waits until it's paid. Paid outside Stripe? Open More, then Billing, and mark it paid. Need to deliver it before they pay? Deliver anyway… asks why and records your reason on the client's history. Your own PDF is never held.

Part 4 β€” FAQ
Do I have to type all the client's numbers?
No. Upload the tax return and the AI reads them. Typing is only a backup when you don't have the return.
It said it "can't open files." What happened?
Attach the return on Return & facts before you run the full plan. Attached it after? Run the full plan again.
What does "Check a few numbers" mean?
The Auditor flagged something for you to confirm, like a figure or a strategy that needs paperwork. Read the Auditor's notes, adjust, and run the plan again if needed.
The savings number β€” how is it calculated?
It adds up the strategies you selected. The total is capped at 85% of federal tax, because strategies don't fully stack. Refundable credits are added on top. The Auditor checks the math.
Will my clients see "AI-TaxPlan"?
No. Once you set your logo and colors in My firm, the client portal and PDFs show your brand.
Is my client data private?
Yes. Each firm's data is isolated, every portal link is unique and secure, and nothing is shared between firms.
How long does a plan take?
A Quick Plan takes about 30 seconds. A full plan takes a few minutes. You can leave the page. It finishes and saves on its own.
